The Algester Junior Bowls Academy attends Queensland State Junior Championships
The Fulton Hogan Algester Junior Bowls Academy junior’s squad enjoyed success at the recent Queensland State Junior Championships in Toowoomba. Algester Sports Club sent four of its junior bowlers along in January to compete in the Under Fifteen and Under Eighteen State Championships. All four players played well, winning a number of games between them.
The Fulton Hogan team in Queensland started sponsoring the junior squad about twelve months ago. The funds helped pay for the Junior Carnival State Championship nomination fee and accommodation costs, juniors club green fees, and junior memberships. The team also donated two sets of bowls and helped some of the junior members purchase new shoes, team uniforms, and fuel to get them to competitions.
Not only has this been a great initiative for the juniors, but it has also been wonderful for many of the elderly bowls club members, who have taken the kids under their 'nana/grandpa wing', helping the older members reconnect with their local community. Some of the members who have previously felt isolated, particularly during COVID-19, value their time with the junior members and watching them develop.
The Fulton Hogan Junior Algester Sports club Bowls Academy is bringing the juniors through with great success, with all five juniors now playing in the senior competitions on a Saturday afternoon.
